Property Description

The Oxford House Inn is located in the center of the village of Fryeburg, Maine. It was built in 1913, as a stately home for Charles & Blanche Fox. They had this building designed by the famous Maine architect JOHN CALVIN STEVENS.In 1985, John & Phyllis Morris moved in and made renovations. Over the years, the inn has gained a reputation as one of the Valley's best gourmet dining spots and also as a comfortable inn for travelers, vacationers & business people.Rated 3 diamonds by AAA and 3 stars by Mobil guide, the inn has a 50 seat restaurant open to the public and also 4 elegant guest rooms with private baths for overnight lodging. Overnight guests are served a superb breakfast in a glassed-in dining room that overlooks the White Mountains and the Saco River Valley. The inn is surounded by mountains, lakes & rivers with year-round activities nearby: hiking, biking, skiing, canoeing, boating, fishing, antiquing, golfing, outlet shopping and scenic walks & drives through the White Mountain National Forest. Wildlife, waterfalls, nature, picnics, photography and quiet walks abound.Night-time dining at the inn is a special treat with John's endless dinner creations such as: Scallops L'Orange in Puff Pastry, Baby Rack of Lamb with a minted french Dijon Sauce, Veal Steak Stuffed with Danish Blue Cheese, Grilled Pork Tenderloin with a Black Currant Sauce, Chicken with Sherried Maine Crab meat, as well as many other gourmet entree choices. There are many wonderful appetizer choices and all the inn's delicious desserts are home-made by Phyllis.
